I met a wonderful lady named Mary Kerr a few years ago who has been doing appraisals, lectures and repairs for many years. I have been very interested in learning about this stuff. I haven't really had an opportunity or reason to look into it until now : D...
I have found out that there are opportunities to donate them to a textile school, museums and/or sell them to a dealer. However, now is not a good time to be selling these types of things as the recession has everyone hanging on to their money and they are not bringing the money they once did or probably will again someday.

Isn't it amazing where our lives and talents can lead us? Quilting is something that always takes me back my my grandnother, and I wish she would have taught me what she knew!

I love antique quilts and quilt tops! Of course, I love the history of quilts and to try to date the fabric.I think each quilt tells a story.

The recession has hit sellers of all kinds of beautiful treasures because people just can't see their way clear to buy things they don't actually need just because they are pretty. Makes it so hard for sellers - on the other hand, it should be a collector's dream if they can pick up bargains. The challenge is finding a collector or museum looking for something like these. Good luck! So lovely that you agreed to help her.
I was blessed to haev my great-grandmother's quilt top finished by two dear sisters. It sat in a show box for years. My father used it during the last years of his life so it's very precious to me. Thanks!
Beautiful quilts, and it sounds like finding a home for them was interesting, as well.
I decided years ago to learn to quilt and found that I really loved doing it all by hand, instead of any machine work. There is something so rich about the combination of fabric, thread, needle and human hands! And what a great way to join the beautiful to the practical ... ;-)
