Lions and Elephants and Giraffes Oh MY!

Here at Liz B. Quilting, Longarm Quilting Co. studio -  today one of my longarm renters finished her Longarm Quilting Certification Class, on the Innova Quilting Systems, by quilting this adorable baby quilt.  It has a safari big block and the blue green pinwheel.  The quilting pattern is a safari quilt pattern with Lions, Giraffes and Elephants that popped up perfectly in the pinwheel blocks...so cutie!

Here is a pic of a few blocks together on the frame.

Love IT!!!

OK, I have finished the quilt that we are going to make in the Beginning Quilt Class that I am going to teach in a few weeks...here it is!

I wrote the pattern (something I have been wanting to practice anyway).  I just wanted to practice...don't think you can sell a 9 patch patter...however, I did notice several ways to make it very modern that might make an interesting book : D.

98 Percent

I have now done 100 quilts (for money) since I got my longarm machine.  I actually have done more, but I haven't counted the ones I have done for charity.  Whooo hooo!

Unfortunately, into every career a little rain must fall right?  Right!  So, out of that 100 quilts I have had to give a discount on two quilts...so that is 98% right?  And that is good right??  I keep telling myself this because I stew over these quilts...  The first on was the gigantic quilt that I did that was hand pieced and was VERY hard to quilt and my longarm got caught in one of the open seams and ripped the back in two places and now the whimsy buggie one I had to do this weekend.  Ugh!  My teacher told me, when I went to quilt school, not to use different threads on the bottom and top of the quilt.  I however have had VERY good luck doing just that for over a year.  However, my luck just ran out.

If you are not a quilter you may not know that "pokies" are not good (yeah that is the technical term : D). This is what pokies look like...

However, while the bottom looked like this...the top looked great!  I really enjoyed making the designs for this custom quilt.  Since there were buggies on the quilt I made the quilt patterns buggies too...

I did an echo quilting around the applique beetles...

Some Swirlies for good measure...

And Voila a cutie quilt with pokies on the back...UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily I do learn from my mistakes...so no more different color thread on the top than bottom anymore!!!!!!!!!!!11

A New Baby Blanket...

So, I was inspired to make a new baby blanket...I don't really like the exact way it came out, but I think I am on to something.  I think with a few tweaks it might be something that I can do as a pttern for others.  If you see any tweaks that are necessary please comment!  Here is the pictures...let me know.

These are Timeless Treasures fabrics.  I am not sure how I am going to quilt bit, but I think it will make all the difference.  However, I do like how the pink outside borders and the white outside borders cross eachother and bounce back up it reminds me of pong...back in the Atari days : D.
